What's happening in the Cumberland Valley

In Chambersburg beginning on Friday April 29th, THE WAKING GIANT INDEPENDENT FILM FESTIVAL will be offered at the Capitol Theatre. Waking Giant will feature the 1999 Sundance Film Festival Grand Jury Prize Winning Documentary Film “American Movie” by Independent Filmmaker Mark Borchardt as well as the anticipated premiere of the short film “Singapore” written and directed by Chambersburg’s own up-and-coming filmmaker Christopher Watson. You can stay at one of two lovely B&Bs in the Chambersburg area: Craig Victorian B&B or the Inn at Ragged Edge. The friendly innkeepers at these B&Bs will be happy to give you directions to the theatre and help you find a nice restaurant in the area.

Moving north up the valley, at Pine Grove Furnace State Park, you can learn all about the Iron Furnace, its founder, and the 130+ year history of the iron forge. On Friday, April 29th, local historian Bill Engle will tell stories of the owners and the workers of the furnace. While you are in the park, take a hike around the lake! Nearby B&Bs include Field & Pine B&B (717-776-7179) and Pine Tree Inn B&B.

In Carlisle, there will be lots of cars, lots of car parts, and lots of car enthusiasts as the Spring Carlisle Collector Car Show begins the car show season. Check availability at some of the Carlisle area B&Bs.

Nearby, at Roundtop Mountain Resort, enjoy a ZIP line during the day and Live Entertainment in the evening! Gelinas Manor B&B or Blair Mountain B&B are your choices for a great B&B stay and help with directions to the resort.

What's happening in the Cumberland Valley, PA

Spring has arrived in the beautiful Cumberland Valley! There are lots of things to see, do, and learn that will give you great memories take home with you!

There is a special exhibit called "Attic Treasures" at the Mechanicsburg Museum. Come see some of those wonderful classic items you may remember from Grandma's house or Great-grandpa's barn. Learn more about how those items were used and where they were made.
On Thursday, April 11th (6:30 to 9 PM) there will be a Mechanicsburg version of Antiques Roadshow with the "Antiques Show & Tell Appraisal" at the Passenger Station. Bring your "treasures" and Richard Murry, of Elmer Murry Auctions, and several other appraisers will evaluate your items. There is a $5.00 charge per item with a limit of 2 items per person.

Traveling south through the valley, you can stop at Pine Grove Furnace State Park. On April 16th, the Camp Michaux Walking Tour will teach you about the Civilian Conservation Corps Camp and the Prisoner of War Interrogation Camp (from WW II). The state park will be beautiful for any kind of hike with wildflowers springing up to brighten your day.

April 15th is the kick-off for "Civil War 150" in Cumberland County. Friday evening will feature a Documentary Film Festival at the Carlisle Theatre. The short films will focus on the impact of the Civil War on ordinary Americans and how it reshaped small communities such as Carlisle.

The 11th annual Savor The Flavor will be hosted at Dickinson College's Holland Union Building and will feature over 25 different restaurants from our local area providing tastings of their current menus. Innkeepers to storm the Mid Atlantic Innkeeping Conference

This week several of our innkeepers will be attending the Mid Atlantic Innkeeping Conference held at the Eden Resort in Lancaster Pa. These events are always exciting for us as innkeepers. We get to reconnect with other innkeepers, connect with new innkeepers and learn about new trends in our ever changing/growing industry. Social Media, recipes, decor, and special event hosting are just a few the items we'll be hearing about. This event is just one way that our innkeepers are striving to stay on trend with what YOU, the consumers and our guests are interested in when staying with us!

Ice Fest in Chambersburg PA

Its time for the Annual Ice Fest in Chambersburg PA January 27th-30th. In the heart of Chambersburg there are all sorts of things to see and do. Christmas Shopping Season Has Officially Begun!

The Christmas Season has officially begun.
