GM Nationals in Carlisle June 24-26

One of the largest and most diverse of General Motors events, this is the place to be in June.

Organized by year, make and model, the NPD showfield will be loaded with top quality restored classics, original muscle cars and modified high-performance new models. Buckle up for: test drives from Chevrolet; indoor displays of concepts, customs, performance and historic vehicles; NHRA drag racing; industry guests; activities for the kids; as well as vehicle and engine giveaways. You will also find an unbelievable variety of vendors, an all-GM car corral and the Manufacturers Midway vending area.

Kayak - Michaux State Forest, PA

Sunday, June 19 - Long Pine Reservoir Two sessions to choose from: 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm or 4:30 pm – 6:30 pm Novice as well as experienced paddlers are welcome to participate in a relaxed 1.5 hour exploration of this quiet reservoir located in Michaux State Forest near Caledonia State Park. This peaceful, 155 acre lake has approximately three miles of shoreline, most of which is mixed hardwood and pine forest. While small electric motor boats are permitted, canoes and kayaks are more typical. Fishing and hiking are also available at Long Pine Run Reservoir. Kayak program participants meet Kings Gap staff at the lake. Single kayaks, paddles and life vests are provided. Basic instruction and safety procedures will be reviewed before launching. Please be aware of these safety restrictions when registering: * Participants must be 12 years or older, and able to swim. * Each participant age 12-18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. * 300 lb. weight limit for kayaks. The Cumberland County Historical Society presents From Fiber to Fashion: The Fabric of Early Cumberland County,a free exhibit open to the public. Biographies of a local weaver, spinner, tailor ad merchant illustrate interactions with fellow county residents from 1750-1820 as well as with merchants from Pennsylvania and Europe. Based on the popular book, Cloth and Costume 1750 to 1800, the exhibit features textiles referenced in this publication as well as artifacts from the CCHS collection, other museums and private collectors.

All-Fords Carlisle June 3-5 - 1st Time: FORD PARADE

June 3-5 2011

The Downtown Carlisle Association announced today that over 200 Fords have pre-registered for the new Ford Nationals Parade and Street Party in Downtown Carlisle. Scheduled for Saturday, June 4 at 6:45 pm, the Ford Parade will be similar to the internationally known Corvette Parade held in Carlisle every August where participants from the auto show will parade their custom and restored vehicles into downtown where they will park and enjoy the evening of live music, dining, and shopping. The parade is sponsored by the Downtown Carlisle Association, LoveCarlisle.com, Carlisle Events, F&M Trust and the Carlisle Theater.

Highlights of the Parade will include Ford NASCAR racing teams, Ford Concept cars, a large selection of Pinto Collectors called the "Pinto Stampede", and a host of period police cars from the Mayberry PD of the famed Andy Griffith Show. Live entertainment is scheduled for the corner of West High and Pitt Street and the blues band Octavia will perform on the steps of the new courthouse.

The Carlisle Theater will show a special screening of the classic movie BULLITT, staring Steve McQueen. The movie, set in San Francisco, was a key part in making the Ford Mustang the classic car it is today. Bullitt starts at 8 p.m. and costs $6 per person. Tickets can be purchased at the Ford Parade sign up tent at the Ford Nationals show or at the Carlisle Theater the day of the show.

Anyone can register for the parade who has a Ford without advertising. Cost to participate is $10 online at www.carsatcarlisle.com or $15 if you sign up at the show. Show guests can sign up at the Ford Parade Tent next to the Goody Bag Garage. Al l proceeds from the show go to production expenses and Downtown Carlisle Association marketing expenses.

Many downtown businesses will be open late and offering free entertainment. The Comfort Suites will be offering a Buffet starting at 5 pm with a Tossed Salad, Chicken Picatta, Beef Pot Roast and assorted sides and desserts for $18.95, plus tax and gratuity. Reservations can be made at 717-960-1000.

The vehicles will form outside of the Carlisle Fairgrounds and parade to downtown using Spring Garden Road, then Clay Street then onto North Hanover. Once in downtown, the vehicles will be parked on Hanover from South Street to North Street, and on High Street from West to Bedford Street. The event will end at 10 p.m. and streets should be opened to the public by 10:30 p.m.

On June 4, 2011, the village of Boiling Springs
will officially be designated an
Appalachian Trail Community™.

The Appalachian Trail Community™ designation is a new program of the ATC, the non-profit manager of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail (A.T.). Launched in 2010, this program recognizes communities for their part in promoting awareness of the A.T. as an important national and local resource. Towns, counties and communities along the A.T. corridor are considered assets by A.T. hikers, and many of these towns act as good friends and neighbors to the Trail.
