GM Nationals in Carlisle June 24-26


One of the largest and most diverse of General Motors events, this is the place to be in June.
Organized by year, make and model, the NPD showfield will be loaded with top quality restored classics, original muscle cars and modified high-performance new models. Buckle up for: test drives from Chevrolet; indoor displays of concepts, customs, performance and historic vehicles; NHRA drag racing; industry guests; activities for the kids; as well as vehicle and engine giveaways. You will also find an unbelievable variety of vendors, an all-GM car corral and the Manufacturers Midway vending area.

Kayak - Michaux State Forest, PA


Sunday, June 19 - Long Pine Reservoir

Two sessions to choose from: 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm or 4:30 pm – 6:30 pm

Novice as well as experienced paddlers are welcome to participate in a relaxed 1.5 hour exploration of this quiet reservoir located in Michaux State Forest near Caledonia State Park.

This peaceful, 155 acre lake has approximately three miles of shoreline, most of which is mixed hardwood and pine forest. While small electric motor boats are permitted, canoes and kayaks are more typical. Fishing and hiking are also available at Long Pine Run Reservoir.

Kayak program participants meet Kings Gap staff at the lake. Single kayaks, paddles and life vests are provided. Basic instruction and safety procedures will be reviewed before launching.

Please be aware of these safety restrictions when registering:

* Participants must be 12 years or older, and able to swim.

* Each participant age 12-18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

* 300 lb. weight limit for kayaks.

Kings Gap Staff will provide a natural history program during each session.

Registration required: $15/person.

The Cumberland County Historical Society presents From Fiber to Fashion: The Fabric of Early Cumberland County,a free exhibit open to the public. Biographies of a local weaver, spinner, tailor ad merchant illustrate interactions with fellow county residents from 1750-1820 as well as with merchants from Pennsylvania and Europe. Based on the popular book, Cloth and Costume 1750 to 1800, the exhibit features textiles referenced in this publication as well as artifacts from the CCHS collection, other museums and private collectors.
